Amir Anwary, a veterinarian and content creator, shared the advice on his popular TikTok page @Amirthevet.He regularly posts tips and tricks for pet owners and has amassed one million followers. In a recent post, Amir offered advice to dog owners. In his caption, the vet said: "As dog owners we all have the exact same question on our minds: how can we get our pets to live longer because their lives are so short?"There are several things we can do, simple things we can do at home to help potentially extend our pets' lives. These are three of the easiest ones to implement from my side and I'll suggest you start implementing them straightaway so that your pets can in fact live longer."In his video, Amir explained: "These are three things you can do at home to get your dog to live longer. First is put them on a diet. Studies have shown that dogs that are overfed and are overweight will live on average two years less than dogs that are fed the correct amount or fed less and are of the correct weight. So make sure that you are watching your pet's weight; it is so, so, so extremely important."Moving on to the second point, Amir explained that dogs need consistent, regular exercise. "This doesn't mean you need to take them chasing a tennis ball and running up mountains. In fact, as they get older, that kind of exercise can actually cause more harm than it does good.Content cannot be displayed without consent"But consistent controlled moderate exercise every single day is so good for their immune system, for their bodies, and for their cognitive function. So make sure that you are regularly exercising your dogs if you want them to live longer."Finally, Amir recommended supplements. He claimed: "The foods we feed our dogs today are giving them the minimum requirements that they need, yes, but they're not necessarily getting everything that they need to thrive. So you need to make up that difference."So what I do for my dog is I want to control inflammation, I want to improve her dental health, and I want to improve her joints because joints are extremely important in dogs, especially as they get older. So for anti-inflammatory, I will give her a high-quality Omega-3 supplement; for her teeth, I will use a dental powder; and for the joints, I will use a comprehensive joint supplement."Article continues belowThe video gained thousands of views and likes. Replying to the post, a social media user said: "I agree 100%" Someone else wrote: "Thanks for the info. And reminders not to overfeed."Meanwhile, a pet owner commented: "Never had an overweight pet in 30 years. My dogs in the park several times a day since birth, running every single day..even during hurricane Ian we were out there! Last dog lived almost 19 years."Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.DogsTeamDogsAnimalsMy PetsHealthExpert AdviceLife hacksViralTikTok
