Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said the state's share accounts for 60 per cent of the total paddy procured across the nation during the current Rabi season.Speaking after unveiling the National Flag at Telangana Formation Day celebration organised by the state government here, he said his government has so far procured 63.65 lakh metric tons of paddy and deposited ₹11,903 crores directly into farmers' accounts.The government also procured nearly 10,000 metric tons of wet paddy to rescue farmers from losses in areas where the harvest was damaged due to unseasonal rains, he said."Today, no other state in the country is in a position to compete with Telangana in paddy procurement. I take pride in stating that Telangana’s share accounts for 60 per cent of the total paddy procured across the nation during the Yasangi (Rabi) season," he said.According to estimates for the 2025-26 period, Telangana achieved a record high of 236.87 lakh metric tonnes of food grain production.The incentives provided by the government to the farmers yielded outstanding results in the production of paddy, maize, and cotton.Further, the livestock and fisheries sectors have also achieved substantial growth.Now, the pressing need is for farmers to adopt the diversification of their crop production, thereby transforming Telangana into a land of diverse and abundant harvests, he said.According to him, the state government is making efforts to build a barrage at Tummidihetti on Godavari river on the Telangana-Maharashtra border and has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to seek the neighbouring state's cooperation as there would be submergence in Maharashtra after the completion of the barrage.The Kaleshwaram project constructed by the previous BRS government at a cost of ₹1 lakh crore suffered structural failure within just three years of its completion and the burden of carrying out the necessary repairs has now fallen upon the government.The government has already initiated restoration works on Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram project, he said.Noting that the government has filled 67,763 vacant posts in the government departments in a record time, he said the Telangana State Public Service Commission would issue notifications this month to fill vacancies in the Engineering, Pollution Control Board, Forest, Town and Country Planning, and Education departments.The process of issuing these notifications will be continuous, he said.On the reforms initiated in the education sector, he said the government has already introduced pre-primary classes in 1,362 primary schools across the state."This year, we are establishing pre-primary classes in 2,769 schools. Consequently, the enrollment rate in government schools is expected to rise," he said.Highlighting the implementation and achievements in various government schemes and sectors, the CM said he aims to position the state as a "gateway to the world" and transform it into a $3 trillion economy by 2047.Reddy cut short his speech in view of the severe heat conditions prevailing in the state during the ongoing summer.He directed the officials two days ago to keep the event short in view of the heat and make arrangements to provide relief to the guests and other attendees from the heat.Published on June 2, 2026
