Anthony Joshua (29-4-0, 26 KOs) spoke to the media for the first time since the serious car accident in Nigeria on December 29 2025, in which two members of his team died. The press conference was to formally launch the former two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion’s fight against Albanian Kristian Prenga (20-1-0, 20 KOs) on July 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – an event titled ‘The Comeback’.But it was also a first opportunity to hear Joshua address the media. The 36-year-old was in a Lexus SUV when it collided with a stationary vehicle on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, south-west Nigeria, in December. His personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami died, and Joshua was discharged from hospital after two days.On Monday, dressed in his standard uniform of an Under Armour tracksuit, with his eyes shielded by a pair of dark sunglasses, Joshua spoke solely about what lies ahead of him, and did not touch on the car accident.Asked by Matchroom’s Jamie Ward what boxing still gives him after all these years, Joshua spoke about it being “an opportunity to work”.“I’m a contracter, I have contracts, it’s my job, so I’ve got an opportunity to work and a chance to improve,” he said. “I’ve really focused on improving my talent and my skill. I really want to improve my boxing IQ. I want to go in there and show how good I am.”
