The Prohibition and Excise Department temporarily suspended the licence of the pub in Koyambedu and sealed the premises late on Sunday.

The 18-year-old girl, who was killed by a gang of drunk youths in a hit-and-run case after a quarrel inside a private bar on Saturday night, and her 17-year-old friend, who remains in a critical condition, were allegedly sexually harassed by the gang inside the bar. The Koyambedu police have so far arrested seven persons in connection with the case, including three who were apprehended on Sunday.The deceased hails from Villupuram district, and her friend, who is a resident of Ramapuram, has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, the police said.The deceased was a content creator and even had a fan following. She and her friend from Ramapuram became acquainted on social media. The police said she left the house to visit friends in Chennai and stayed with the 17-year-old girl for the past 10 days.The police said that on Saturday night, the two girls went to a pub called MM’s Chennai Gateway and met two more youths whom they befriended on social media. They entered the pub around 9.30 p.m.Aswanth, one of the youths who accompanied the girls, in a video, said that while moving through the crowd, a person from another group that had come to the pub misbehaved with the girls and forced them to dance with him. “When I intervened, the group also manhandled me. I immediately informed the bouncers about the incident. The bouncers pacified the group and advised all of us to leave the premises and to settle the matter outside.”During that time, another verbal altercation broke out between the first group and another group of youths, and escalated into a brawl. The bouncers again intervened and separated both groups. Later, these groups again got into an argument near a shop outside the pub, following which the same bouncers once again intervened and dispersed them.Subsequently, the two girls and their friends decided to head towards Thirumangalam on two-wheelers, while the first group left in a sports utility vehicle (SUV). “We were going to drop off the girls at a bus stop, so they could head back home. Meanwhile, unidentified persons had allegedly pelted the group’s SUV with stones near Koyambedu flyover and fled the spot,” Aswanth said.Assuming that the girls and their friends were responsible for the stone-pelting, the men in the SUV allegedly began chasing and attacking them. “They first rammed the other vehicle. They continued to chase us and rammed the motorcycle the deceased and I were riding. In the impact, we fell on the road, resulting in her death. The accused then fled the scene,” Aswanth said.The police arrested seven accused in connection with the incident and identified them as Suman Sakthivel of Virugambakkam, Mohanasundaram, Vimalraj, Rahul, Balaguru, Kishore Kumar, and Joshua.
