Some operatives of Nigeria's Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested and detained renowned Nigerian writer and public intellectual, Okey Ndibe, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos shortly after his arrival from the United States.

SaharaReporters learnt that the operatives of the DSS insisted that they were waiting for "orders from above" before he could be released.

Human rights activist and AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, also confirmed the writer's arrest in a post on Monday.

Sowore described the incident as another indication of what he called the shrinking civic space under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.
