A pedestrian corridor with integrated utilities is planned along a 2,400-metre stretch from New Washermenpet Metro station to Tollgate Metro station and along Arunachaleswarar Koil Street in Tondiarpet zone, at an estimated cost of ₹71.90 crore.According to a press release, the project includes provision for underground ducts to carry electric cables, drinking water and sewer pipelines, and data network lines. Works are under way to create the required sub-surface infrastructure along the stretch.During an inspection here on Monday, Corporation Commissioner G.S. Sameeran asked officials to coordinate with service departments to carry out the work without delay and to remove roadside encroachments, including shops, to expedite execution, the release added.Later in the day, in Kodambakkam zone, he reviewed the waste clearance from bins and sanitation work along Vadapalani Nerkundram Road, and directed authorities to remove garbage promptly and maintain cleanliness in and around public bin locations, the release added.
