Automobile wholesales gained momentum with many OEMs reporting record breaking sales in May 2026. The Passenger Vehicles (PV) industry is estimated to have sold 4.4 lakh units in May.PV market leader Maruti Suzuki India Ltd continued to surpass all past wholesales record in May 2026 indicating strong demand for automobiles. The company in May reported total wholesales of 2,42,688 units, up 35% Year on Year (YoY).In the domestic market the company did wholesales of 1,93,535 units, up 40% YoY. Exports surged 34% to 41,914 units. Company top executives said that the demand for CNG vehicles have gone up by 40% following the hike in petrol prices and the bookings for Electric Vehicles have jumped 100%.“We are improving every month. We had record sales in April and now have surpassed that record in May. We have seen improvement in every segment including small cars,” said Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India.Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd in May reported domestic wholesales if 59,090 units, up 42% YoY. Exports grew 45% YoY to 700 units. Domestic and exports EV sales grew 85% YoY to 10,517 units. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd reported PV sales of 58,021 units, up 11% YoY. Domestic Commercial Vehicles sales grew 19% YoY to 24,079 units. The company reported total sales of 99,636 units, up 20% YoY.Hyundai Motor India Ltd in May sold 47,837 units in the domestic market, up 9.1% YoY. Total sales grew 4.1% YoY to 61,137 units. Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd in May sold 30,574 units in the domestic market, up 4% YoY. Including exports the company sold 33,128 units, up 7% YoY.Kia Motor India said it witnessed highest ever May sales of 27,586 units, up 23.6% YoY. JSW MG Motor India said it maintained its sales performance by selling 6,048 units in May despite supply chain disruptions and high commodity prices.Renault India sold 4,114 units in May 2026 as compared with 2,502 units a year ago, up 64%.
