Andhra Pradesh State Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Trust (HDPT), an official trust functioning under the Endowments Department, will initiate ‘Gundlakamma Haritha Haara Yagnam’, a mega plantation drive along both the sides of Gundlakamma river on June 5.The Gundlakamma river rises in Nallamala Hills near Brahmeswaram in Nandyal district, flows through Cumbum, Markapuram, Addanki and Ongole, and finally merges into Bay of Bengal near Gundayapalem, after covering a distance of 280 km.Addressing a press conference in Ongole on Monday, HDPT Chairman Dasari Srinivasulu said that the plantation drive will be launched at seven villages simultaneously by respective MLAs and MPs of seven constituencies on June 5 as part of World Environment Day.The HDPT chief further said that the programme will not be confined to just planting saplings but will also involve the the protection and growth of these plants by local youth, farmers and devotees.
