The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has admitted that he failed to fulfill his 2024 promise to remove cows roaming the streets and major roads of Abuja, describing the issue as one of national security and apologising to residents over the unfulfilled commitment.
Wike made the admission on Monday during a media chat in Abuja, where he was questioned about his earlier pledge to rid the nation's capital of cattle roaming freely within the city.
Responding to the issue, the minister said efforts were still ongoing to address the situation, stressing that the presence of cows within the city was not merely an environmental or urban planning concern but a security matter.
"That's what we're working on. You've talked about cows. That's the issue of national security, national security," Wike said.
