All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary Amarjeet Kaur on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify the Centre’s policy on the proposed India–United States trade agreement, expressing concerns over transparency and national interest. Inaugurating the AITUC National General Council meeting at Labour Brotherhood Nagar, Thrissur Town Hall, Ms. Kaur questioned whether citizens had the right to know the details of the proposed India–US deal and criticised what she described as a tendency to yield to external pressures.Addressing delegates, she alleged that global power structures were increasingly being shaped by corporate and militaristic interests, influencing political leadership across nations. Ms. Kaur also accused the Union government of weakening India’s traditional non-aligned foreign policy stance and expressed concern over its international alignments. She further criticised the labour codes introduced by the Centre, alleging that they had been rushed through to legitimise anti-worker measures.
On domestic issues, Kaur pointed to rising fuel prices and raised concerns about pressures faced by students, including controversies surrounding national-level examinations. She alleged that such developments were affecting the aspirations of millions of young people. The AITUC National General Council meeting, attended by delegates from across the country, began on Monday and will conclude on June 3 Published - June 01, 2026 08:21 pm IST
