England and Wales had their warmest spring on record this year, according to provisional figures from the Met Office.Scotland experienced its eight warmest spring while Northern Ireland had its joint sixth warmest.An “exceptionally early and record-breaking spell of heat at the end of May” helped to push the seasonal mean average temperature in England and Wales to its highest level since comparable data began in 1884, the Met Office said.Meteorological spring runs from March 1 to May 31.Across the UK as a whole, it was the third warmest spring on record.This is a breaking story.
