The second season of the Elite Cricket League (ECL), a charity cricket tournament aimed at supporting the families of soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation, will be held at the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on June 27 and 28.The tournament trophy was unveiled at a hotel in the city on Monday in the presence of State Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy and MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao. Organised under the aegis of the Chamala Foundation, the event is expected to bring together public representatives, film and television personalities, doctors, senior government officials, industrialists, business leaders and other eminent personalities.According to the organisers, the inaugural edition of the league, held in Hyderabad, raised ₹35 lakh for the welfare of martyrs’ families. Buoyed by the response, the second edition is planned on a larger scale in Visakhapatnam.ECL chairman Chamala Uday Chander Reddy and ECL director and actor Ravindra Reddy Medapati appealed to philanthropists, corporate organisations, voluntary groups and the public to support the initiative, stating that the proceeds from the tournament would be utilised for the welfare of martyrs’ families.
