This year, the Andhra Premier League (APL), which is set to begin from June 9 in Visakhapatnam, is not only about cricket but also about promoting culture, local art and entertainment, said Vijayawada MP and Andhra Cricket Association(ACA) president Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni).Addressing the media at the MP camp office in city on Tuesday, Mr. Sivanath said there will be cultural performances, exhibition of traditional art forms daily, while different singers and artistes would be roped in during the tournament to promote local art and culture.“We want the event to be a celebration of sports, arts and culture,” the MP said. He added that the event should serve as an opportunity for both young talented players and local artistes, which in turn will boost the tourism and economy of the place. The MP also announced that free passes would be distributed to college students on a daily basis.As earlier announced by the MP, the APL matches will be held in Mangalagiri and Kadapa, and not just in Visakhapatnam as they were last year. In this regard, the two stadiums are being renovated and will be ready to host the matches in a few days, the MP said.The first few matches will be played in Visakhapatnam, followed by the second set of matches in Kadapa. From June 24, the third set of matches, including the final on June 30, will be held in Mangalagiri. Human Resources Development Minister N. Lokesh is expected to attend the final match.
