Andhra Pradesh BJP president P. V. N. Madhav has described the operationalisation of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone, headquartered in Visakhapatnam, as a historic milestone and a significant achievement for the State.Speaking in New Delhi while attending meetings of the BJP National Office Bearers, Mr. Madhav said the launch of the Visakhapatnam-based railway zone fulfilled a long-pending aspiration of the people of Andhra Pradesh. He said he had conveyed his gratitude to the party’s national leadership on the occasion.Mr. Madhav noted that the demand for a separate railway zone for Andhra Pradesh had gained prominence after the State’s bifurcation and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had fulfilled the commitment made to the State. He said the new zone, comprising the Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal railway divisions, would enhance administrative efficiency and expedite railway infrastructure development.Describing the railway zone as a major boost to the State’s growth prospects, Mr. Madhav said it would facilitate the execution of new railway lines, track-doubling works, freight corridors and future high-speed rail projects, while contributing to balanced regional development.He said the establishment of the zone would also strengthen Visakhapatnam’s role as a key logistics and industrial hub by improving port connectivity and freight movement. According to him, the development would benefit strategic infrastructure assets such as the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Gangavaram Port, besides supporting the growth of industrial corridors and export-import activity.
