TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that Pancasila as a guide for the Indonesian people amid a world situation fragmented by conflicts, geopolitical rivalries, trade wars, and global economic uncertainties."In the midst of a world increasingly divided by conflicts, geopolitical rivalries, trade wars, and economic uncertainties, Indonesia has a strong foundation. This foundation is Pancasila," Prabowo said when inspecting the Pancasila Day ceremony at Pancasila Field, within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs complex in Central Jakarta, on Monday, June 1, 2026.Prabowo mentioned that Pancasila did not emerge from thin air, but from the history, experience, culture, and aspirations of the Indonesian people themselves. "Pancasila is a great consensus, a national agreement that allows our nation, consisting of thousands of islands, hundreds of ethnic groups, hundreds of languages, and hundreds of different cultures, to live as one nation," said the former Minister of Defense.According to Prabowo, Pancasila should not be seen merely as a formal symbol in state ceremonies. He also emphasized that Pancasila must guide all aspects of national, social, and state life, including the national economic system."Pancasila is not just a historical document. Pancasila should also not be just a slogan that we chant in every ceremony," he said. The Gerindra Party chair is confident that Indonesia can become a progressive, prosperous, and respected nation if its people earnestly implement the values of Pancasila in politics, law, society, culture, and the economy.Prabowo also emphasized that the state must not pursue short-term comfort at the expense of future generations' interests. He stated that every government policy should be directed towards ensuring a better future for the nation's children and grandchildren. He mentioned that no country can be independent without prosperity. Prabowo affirmed that he does not want Indonesia to depend on other nations. "Because in reality, there is no other nation that will pity us," he said. "If our people are hungry, if our people are in difficulty, no other nation, no other power will pity or help us."He then referred to Soekarno's idea, as the first President of Indonesia, that the nation should be free from dependence on others. "Just as our founding father, our proclaimer, Bung Karno, once recommended to us, we must dare to stand on our own feet. That is the essence of a sovereign state," said Prabowo.Read: Prabowo Says He's Ready to Confront Illegal Business PracticesClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
