Authorities surround Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon facility after an explosion on June 1. [NEWS1]

Hanwha Group and its subsidiary Hanwha Aerospace issued a public apology on Monday following the explosion at the company's Daejeon facility that killed five workers.

“We are devastated and heartbroken by the loss of five valued employees in the accident that occurred at our Daejeon facility this morning,” the two companies said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased and our sincere sympathies to their bereaved families.”
