The first-ever Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers' Meeting convened in Seoul on Monday, gathering representatives from 50 African countries and four regional organizations to discuss ways to broaden cooperation on economic and global challenges.

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun co-chaired the meeting at Lotte Hotel Seoul with Ghana's Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who serves as vice-chair of the African Union this year. It is the first time the Korean government has invited all 54 African nations, along with four regional bodies, to a standalone ministerial meeting.

In his opening remarks, Cho framed the meeting around a world under strain.
