Music filled the streets of Apia on Monday evening as Samoa’s 64th Independence Day celebrations continued with a government-hosted variety show at the Apia waterfront.

From the Apia clock tower, the sounds echoed through Savalalo Market and across the Apia Wharf, where families gathered after a full day of celebration. The variety show followed the Independence Day fautasi race, won by Telefoni o le Vainu’u of Manono, led by Leiataua Jerry Brunt.

As lights lit up the stage, the programme opened with Laufou Peti Key, followed by the Kingdom of Tonga Police Band, before DJ651 and DJ KAYOZ entertained the crowd.

The master of ceremonies welcomed guests, acknowledged sponsors and kept the energy alive between performances with giveaways and crowd interaction. Tourists from as far as America, New Zealand, Australia and American Samoa joined the crowd to celebrate the occasion. The crowd was entertained throughout the evening, with attendees invited on stage for dance battles and giveaways, with winners receiving prizes including Taxi Packs. Several police officers were also spread across the event and controlling traffic.

Among those present were several cabinet Ministers, Prime Minister Laaulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt, and the General Manager of the Airport Authority, Tumanuvao Evile Falefatu.
