Thailand came in second, with 6.7 million seats, a 4.7% reduction in capacity, followed by Vietnam (522,300), Singapore (104,200) and Malaysia (74,600).

The Philippines is bucking the regional trend, recording 6% growth to 5.7 million seats. The increase has been driven largely by Cebu Pacific, as the country's archipelagic geography makes air travel essential while domestic tourism demand remains strong.

Malaysia-based AirAsia continues to be Southeast Asia's busiest carrier with 2.66 million seats handled this month, a 8.1% year-on-year decrease in capacity, followed by Philippines' Cebu Pacific Air with 2.64 million seats.

Overall capacity in the Southeast Asian market reduced by 3.1% this month to 48.1 million seats due to rising fuel costs forcing some airlines to cut international routes.
