New applicants for these visas will now be automatically directed to the upgraded online system.Immigration New Zealand (INZ) said the move is part of its Our Future Services programme, which aims to migrate all visa applications to the enhanced platform over time. The system was first introduced in 2021 and is already used for several visa categories, including visitor visas, international student visas, Accredited Employer Work Visas and Permanent Resident Visas.According to INZ, the upgraded platform is designed to provide a simpler and more user-friendly application process while reducing waiting times and improving communication on application status.Visa categories affectedThe transition covers the Dependent Child Student Visa, several partner work visa categories, and visitor visas for partners and children of workers, students and military personnel.Applicants who submitted their applications through the previous online system on or before May 31, 2026, do not need to reapply. Immigration authorities said those applications will continue to be processed, and applicants will retain access to upload documents and respond to requests until a decision is made.Individuals with draft applications in the old system can either complete and submit them there or start a new application through the enhanced platform.Faster processing plannedINZ said applications submitted through the enhanced Immigration Online system will receive priority assessment during the transition period as authorities gradually move processing operations to the new platform.The agency has also deployed additional staff since late March to support processing of family visa applications and reduce existing backlogs ahead of the transition.New features for applicantsThe enhanced platform includes dynamic application forms that tailor questions to an applicant’s circumstances, built-in guidance, automatic passport data capture through an Identity Document Reader, and improved tracking of application progress.Immigration New Zealand said these changes are intended to reduce application errors, minimise delays and provide applicants with greater visibility throughout the visa process.The existing Immigration Online system will remain available for applications already in progress and for visa categories that have not yet migrated to the enhanced platform.
