The transition will cover Group Visitor Visas, Approved Destination Status (ADS) Visitor Visas and Tour Escort Visitor Visas. Under the new process, fresh applications submitted from July 20 will automatically move through the upgraded online system. Immigration New Zealand said it will release more details closer to the transition date.Focus on faster processing and digital services The change is part of the government’s “Our Future Services” programme, which seeks to modernise New Zealand’s immigration system through digital services, automation and improved risk management tools. Immigration New Zealand said the upgraded system is designed to improve customer experience by reducing waiting times, giving applicants clearer updates on application status and increasing self-service options. The agency also said it is building a feature that will allow applicants to share Group Visitor Visa applications with other group members and tour agency staff involved in the process. Officials said the new system was developed after consultations with visa processing staff, immigration professionals and tourism sector representatives, including ADS agents. “We are aiming to deliver a simpler, faster and more user-friendly visa application process to reduce waiting times, provide clear communication on application status, and increase self-service capabilities so everyone feels more informed and better supported,” Immigration New Zealand said in the announcement. The immigration authority added that paper-based applications for these visa categories may also be reviewed in the future, although no immediate changes have been announced. The enhanced Immigration Online platform was first introduced in 2021. Since then, New Zealand has already moved several visa categories onto the system, including international student visas, visitor visas, Accredited Employer Work Visas and permanent resident visas.
