A serious two-vehicle crash has closed SH1, Waiouru, between Shawcroft Road and Access Road No 17.
It’s believed the crash has caused serious injuries.
Police were called about 2.55am on Monday and the road is now closed, with diversions in place.
Police advised motorists to avoid the area.

Initial reports suggest there are serious injuries from the two-car crash.
Emergency services are responding to a two-vehicle crash south-east of Hamilton that has closed part of State Highway 1.
NZTA says drivers need to avoid the area as no estimate for when the highway will reopen.
One person was critically injured in the crash, which closed the highway for seven hours.
