Two people have been seriously injured and another two suffered moderate injuries following a crash on State Highway 1 near Piarere, between Karāpiro and Tīrau on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of SH1 and Horahora Rd was reported at 1.25pm.
The highway is currently blocked while emergency services respond at the scene.
Police said two people sustained moderate injuries, while a further two were seriously hurt.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
