Police arrest two over attempted theft of two-week-old baby in Abia

The Abia State Police Command says two suspects have been arrested over conspiracy, attempted child theft and possession of drugs in Umuahia.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, for the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, the police named the suspects as Nzubechi Chinagorom, male, 24, and Chinonso Chibundu, male, 25, all of Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA.

The police explained, “On 25/05/2026, the suspects went to the residence of Miss Amarachi Chinyereugo, female, 32, of the same address.

“Nzubechi Chinagorom attempted to forcefully take away her two-week-old baby girl, which resulted in a struggle with the mother. In the process, he assaulted her and stabbed her with a kitchen knife, causing the child to fall and hit her head on the ground.”
