A scam involving the alleged theft of fee paid by students has been unearthed on Sri Venkateswara University campus in Tirupati.Manipulated fee receipts were found to have been generated and issued to the students who had paid their fee towards examination certificates, as per the complaint lodged by Registrar M. Bhupathi Naidu on Friday. The said receipts that caused financial loss to the university’s exchequer also contained fake official seals and forged signature of employees, the complaint said.Though the alleged misappropriation had been taking place since January this year, officials sensed something amiss recently and zeroed in on Chiranjeevi Naik, an employee working at the enquiry counter, and Sankar, an academic consultant in Geology section, for their complicity in the crime. The quantum of misappropriation involved was ₹65,686, but the audacity of the crime, if not noticed on time, could not only have taken the monetary loss much higher but also cast a shadow on the university’s reputation.Based on the complaint, the SVU Campus police registered a case under Sections 318 (4), 336(3), 340(2), 341(2), 341(4), 316(5), r/w 3(5) of the BNS Act.
