Collector A. Shyam Prasad directed officials on Saturday to intensify enforcement, surveillance, and awareness measures to curb the spread of narcotic substances and make Sri Sathya Sai district drug-free.Addressing a review meeting of the district-level National Committee on Drug Law Enforcement (NCORD) here, along with Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar and senior officials, the Collector highlighted the efficacy of a coordinated and technology-backed strategy to eliminate drug trafficking and consumption.Mr. Shyam Prasad instructed the line departments to leverage modern technology to track and prevent the movement of ganja and other narcotics. “Continuous monitoring of individuals involved in previous drug-related cases is vital. Stringent preventive measures, including bind-over proceedings against habitual offenders, should be stepped up,” the Collector said, directing officials to eradicate belt shops across villages and strengthen public awareness campaigns, particularly among youth and students. The SP said that anti-drug awareness campaigns were intensified across educational institutions, public spaces, and other vulnerable locations. “For effective campaign and enforcement, we have introduced advanced drug-testing kits at the field level. The kits can help detect drug consumption within the previous month through sample-based testing, enabling faster identification of offenders,” the SP said. The officials warned of strict legal action against those involved in the transport, sale or consumption of narcotics, asserting that top priority was on protecting the younger generation.
