Lisa Shepherd had her mind blown when she hooked up online with an American visiting the UK and at his suggestion the couple's romance took off - quite literallyEleanor Ovens10:30, 30 May 2026Brit whisked off on Italian trip with Tinder match just hours after first dateA singleton was whisked off on a 'fairytale' getaway to Italy by her Tinder match - just hours after their first date.Lisa Shepherd had been using dating apps for a few months in the hope of finding her 'dream' fella when she matched with an American bloke visiting the UK. The 25-year-old felt an immediate connection with her date after the pair went out for drinks together on New Year's Eve 2025.Saddened that her beau was soon returning to the US, the couple decided to meet again the following day and that's when he suggested the pair book a spontaneous holiday. To decide on the location, the pair asked Chat GPT to generate a list of European countries and cities they were able to fly to from Scotland and then match these results with numbers on dice. After rolling the dice, Lisa and her date landed on Sicily, Italy - and jetted off to the Mediterranean island the very next day.Lisa said the four-night stay was like a 'fairytale' - admitting they slow-danced on the street and read each other love letters by the end of their stay. After nearly a week together, Lisa says it felt like they'd 'been together for years', but said the relationship eventually faded naturally due to the distance. Despite ending up apart, Lisa insists she has no regrets about her spontaneous holiday date - and would consider another Tinder trip with the right person.Lisa, from Edinburgh, said: "I've been single for seven years, I don't really date. I've not found my person yet. I've been on the dating apps for maybe a year. I'm always off and on the apps. I wasn't dating at all really before that."I found Tinder quite empty. I found that the men on there weren't really looking for anything serious. I'm looking to find my dream man, and the main way that people seem to meet people nowadays is on dating apps."After matching with a man from San Diego, California, Lisa went on a date with him on New Year's Eve and the couple agreed to meet the following day after getting on 'like a house on fire'.After meeting again, Lisa's date suggested they go on holiday together - and decided to roll a dice with the help of Chat GPT to pick their destination.Lisa said: "We met, had a drink and got on really well. We got on like a house on fire, I thought 'this is such a good match'. I went back the next day to see him again because I knew he was leaving soon."He said 'do you want to go away somewhere? Shall we spin a dice and see where it lands?'. We spun the dice the day after we had met and landed on Sicily, I was so excited."I'm very spontaneous and absolutely love travel. I felt so safe and we got on so well."The very next day the couple flew from Edinburgh to Sicily for a four-night trip that Lisa described as a 'fairytale'. She said: "It was automatically like we were best friends, it was like we'd known each other forever."It was very comfortable. The holiday was like something out of a movie, it was a fairytale. By the end of the holiday, we were on the balcony writing love letters to each other."He was on the balcony writing me love letters, crying that we were leaving each other. We were slow-dancing on the to singers on the streets of Sicily."It was a magical experience. We had the most amazing time, I thought I'd met the love of my life. I was head over heels, besotted. It felt like we'd been together for years."After their holiday, Lisa flew home to Scotland and her Tinder date returned to America but sadly the romance 'faded out naturally' after their magical trip away. But Lisa says she doesn't regret her romantic getaway, and would even consider another trip abroad with the right person.Lisa said: "Him being from America also made it a lot more fast-paced because we both knew he was going to go home. We did have small talks about the distance but were more enjoying the moment."It just kind of faded out naturally, we're still in contact and still text here and there. If he was in Europe, I think we would meet up again or if I was in America, we would meet up again."But there's no future plans, there's such a difference in time zones and distance. It was a magical thing that I'm thankful happened. Not everyone gets to experience something that magical.“It’s kind of a trend on dating apps. A lot of people say to 'skip the small talk and meet at the airport' and you think it's something you just say."The fact I’ve actually done it is so special. I had no regrets going on the holiday, I had the best time.Article continues below"It was just an exciting thrill of a time. I would do it again but only if I was in the position where I instantly clicked with the person again."
