A court in Rampur on Friday (May 29, 2026) overturned the seven-year prison sentence of former Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Abdullah Azam Khan, the son of the party’s senior leader Mohammad Azam Khan, in the dual passport case.The MP-MLA Sessions Court granted Khan’s appeal nearly six months after a magistrate court had sentenced him.In its ruling dated December 5, 2025, the magistrate court had sentenced Khan to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹50,000.The case was initiated in 2019 at the Civil Lines police station following a complaint lodged by BJP leader Akash Saxena. The complaint claimed that Khan had acquired two passports using different birth dates. The SP leader’s lawyer, Nasir Sultan, said that Special Judge (MP-MLA Court) Dr. Vijay Kumar approved the former MLA’s appeal and annulled the decision of the lower court.
