NEW DELHI: A parliamentary panel on Friday asked the government to ensure that the medical admissions' seat matrix and counselling schedule remain undisturbed as top officials briefed lawmakers on the safeguards being taken for the June 21 NEET-UG retest following the paper leak controversy.Sources said that the National Testing Agency (NTA) is also exploring a shift to a JEE-style examination pattern for NEET-UG from the next academic year as part of a wider overhaul aimed at strengthening transparency and curbing malpractice.CBI director Praveen Sood briefed the Parliament's Committee on Government Assurances on the progress of the paper leak probe, including arrests made so far and efforts to track down the remaining accused.Senior officials of the education ministry, led by higher education secretary Vineet Joshi, along with NTA director general Abhishek Singh and National Medical Commission chairman Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth, appeared before the panel chaired by M Thambidurai.NEET-UG set to be conducted in computer-based test mode from 2027, NTA informs Supreme CourtAccording to sources, the committee stressed that counselling for admissions to medical colleges must be completed on schedule and the seat matrix - which governs the distribution of medical seats across quotas and categories - should not be affected by the retest process.Officials informed the panel about enhanced security and transparency measures being put in place to prevent any repeat of last year's alleged irregularities.The panel had summoned officials from the education ministry, NTA, NMC and the CBI over assurances given by the government in Parliament regarding the conduct of examinations by the testing agency.NGT seeks response from Centre, states regarding heatwave conditions across countryNEET-UG, conducted on May 3, was cancelled by NTA on May 12 after allegations of paper leak surfaced.
