The U.S. announced the fresh financial commitment through Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, on Friday, May 29, as he held talks with Kenyan President William Ruto over the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

The United States of America has pledged to commit the sum of $13.5 million in financial support to strengthen Kenya’s preparedness for the planned quarantine facility at Kenya’s Laikipia Air Base.

The U.S. announced the fresh financial commitment through Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, on Friday, May 29, as he held talks with Kenyan President William Ruto over the ongoing Ebola outbreak.

According to a statement released by the Office of the U.S. State Department Spokesperson, Tommy Pigott, Rubio and Ruto discussed ongoing coordination between both countries on public health measures aimed at containing the outbreak.

“The Secretary and President Ruto discussed coordinated efforts to secure vital medical supplies for Kenya and ensure the strength and preparedness of Kenya’s health system,” Pigott stated.
