The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has raised serious concerns over the recent wave of kidnappings and violent crimes in the state, which the party said, has reinforced the urgency of a coordinated national conversation on state policing and sub-national security management.

The opposition party blamed Governor Seyi Makinde for the worsening security situation in the state, describing it as an alarming rise in kidnappings, murders and hoodlum attacks, contrasting the situation with what it termed “relative stability” in other South-West states.

In a statement issued on Friday in Ibadan by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC said the abduction of school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, as well as the kidnapping of two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Idi Ayunre, had heightened fears among residents and exposed weaknesses in the state’s security architecture.
