A century-old land classification issue affecting the Vatticherukuru village, a mandal headquarters in Guntur district, has finally been resolved, bringing relief to 515 families, according to Minister for Revenue, Registration and Stamps Anagani Satya Prasad. The Minister said the issue, which persisted for over 120 years, has been resolved. The government issued G.O. Ms. No. 314 on Friday, regarding the decision.According to officials, the British had mistakenly classified Vatticherukuru as a ‘village-front tank’ in the 1906 Resettlement Survey Register (RSR). Based on this classification, the village was included in the prohibited list under Section 22A(1)(b) of the Registration Act in 1908, preventing land transactions for decades.Historical records reportedly establish the existence of Vatticherukuru since 1134 AD. The village has been functioning as a gram panchayat since 1931, with residents regularly paying taxes despite the land remaining under the prohibited list.Following representations from villagers after the coalition government assumed office, officials conducted a detailed inquiry and concluded that no water body existed in the area. Consequently, the Revenue Department issued orders, declaring 25.37 acres of the village area as gramakantham and removing it from the prohibited list. The Minister said the government was committed to resolving several long-pending revenue-related disputes.
