Ebrahim Rezaei, the spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament, rejected any commitments to the United States regarding Iran’s nuclear program, saying the Islamic Republic is not willing to give up at the negotiating table what Washington failed to achieve on the battlefield.
In a televised interview, Rezaei pointed to the United States’ own nuclear arsenal and said, "Why should we commit to America that we will not build a nuclear weapon? This matter is none of America’s business." He further emphasized that the United States has no option but to use diplomacy and negotiations to resolve its disputes with Iran.
At the same time, Ebrahim Azizi, the chairman of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, spoke to the RIA Novosti news agency and blamed the current state of bilateral relations on the United States. He said Washington must reconsider its behavior; otherwise, the negotiations will yield no results.
Azizi also addressed the Islamic Republic’s policies regarding the Strait of Hormuz, saying Iran’s "intelligent management" of this strategic waterway will continue. He added that Iran’s controls and measures in the Strait of Hormuz are "permanent in nature" and not temporary.
