The police in Sri Sathya Sai district intensified their crackdown on illegal cricket betting by arresting three persons on Friday, following an investigation into a betting racket unearthed during a raid earlier this month.Addressing a press conference, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Hindupur) K. V. Mahesh said the operation began on May 5 when special police teams, constituted by Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar, conducted a surprise raid near the Thumukunta Industrial Area in Hindupur mandal based on credible intelligence inputs. During the raid, the teams unearthed an organised cricket betting network and seized ₹13.2 lakh in cash along with two mobile phones allegedly used for betting activities.Following a detailed investigation, the police arrested Sandeep Kumar Reddy (32), Thimmareddy (33), and Yerraballi Srinivasa Reddy (37), all residents of the Hindupur division, on Friday. A case was registered at the Hindupur UPS police station under Section 9(1) of the A.P. Gaming Act.Meanwhile, Mr. Satish Kumar warned that online gambling and other unlawful gaming activities would be dealt with firmly.
