Deputy Commissioner of Chamarajanagar Shreeroopa has directed officials to hold special camps in schools to update the Aadhaar biometrics of children who had attained 5 years and 15 years.Chairing a district-level Aadhaar Project Monitoring Committee meeting in Chamarajanagar recently, the Deputy Commissioner said biometric updates of Aadhaar were mandatory when children attain the ages of 5 and 15 years.Pointing out that Aadhaar cards are essential for students for school and college admissions, government welfare schemes, scholarships, competitive examinations and several other purposes, Ms. Shreeroopa said directed officials to hold special camps after schools reopen to provide this facility.The Aadhaar update process for children should be taken up on a campaign mode and completed within one month, she said.The officials of the Education Department were instructed to fix dates for Aadhaar update camps in schools immediately after the commencement of the academic year, while also creating necessary awareness about the initiative.Reviewing the status of Aadhaar-mobile number linking, the Deputy Commissioner sought details of those who had not yet linked their mobile numbers with Aadhaar and instructed officials to expedite the linking process.She said that the mAadhaar app allows Aadhaar updates through mobile phones, including self-service address corrections. Aadhaar cards that are more than 10 years old can also be updated online through the UIDAI portal.The Deputy Commissioner further informed that facilities for Bal Aadhaar, enrolment of five-year-old children, and mobile number updates are available at nearby post offices under IPPB (India Post Payments Bank) and urged the public to make use of the services.Additional Deputy Commissioner T. Javaregowda, Zilla Panchayat Assistant Secretary Srikantharaje Urs, District Scheduled Tribes Welfare Officer H.S. Bindya, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education Puttagouramma, District Aadhaar Consultant Rangaswamy, and e-Governance District Consultant Madhukesh were present at the meeting.Joining the meeting online from Bengaluru were UIDAI Assistant Manager Mohammad Musab and State e-Governance Consultant Prabhuswamy, said a statement here.
