The interim executive director of “Stolichen Avtotransport” EAD (Sofia Autotransport) received a gross salary of 4,651.50 euros for March 2026, according to data provided in response to a question by Sofia Municipal Councilor Simeon Stavrev, Club Z reported. The amount is roughly comparable to the gross salary of Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, which stands at 9,100 leva, or about 4,650 euros.

The figures were disclosed in relation to staffing levels, remuneration, and civil contracts within the municipal transport company, prompting renewed debate over pay structures in public sector enterprises and their alignment with service performance and staffing shortages.

Municipal councilor Stavrev described the comparison as disproportionate, arguing that leadership remuneration in a struggling transport system should be reassessed. “It is absurd that the mayor of Sofia, responsible for a city of millions, earns almost the same as the interim head of Stolichen Avtotransport,” he said, adding that transport services are facing ongoing operational difficulties and driver shortages.

He further noted that the five-member Board of Directors of the company received a combined 17,675.70 euros for the same month, or nearly 34,500 leva. Each board member reportedly received around 3,256.05 euros for participation in meetings.
