Two men are due in court13:34, 29 May 2026Nearly £18,000 has been raised to support a young mum tragically shot dead during a Bank Holiday night out.Shanice Brookes, a 30-year-old mother-of-one, was gunned down near the One Four One bar in Sheffield shortly before 2.45am on Monday. Detectives said the mum who later died in hospital was “simply an innocent bystander”.Friends launched a fundraising appeal to pay for her funeral - and to help support her 10-year-old son.Organiser Tyler-Jay Reid said: “We’re starting this page to help raise money for Shanice’s funeral. Shanice deserves the most beautiful send off after being taken from us far too soon.“She leaves behind her beloved 10-year-old son, who now has to face life without his mum, something no child should ever have to go through. Any money remaining after funeral costs will be put aside for him and his future.“Shanice had the biggest heart, the most infectious humour, and a beautiful soul that touched so many people. She lit up every room she walked into and was loved deeply by everyone lucky enough to know her.”Two men are due in court in connection with her murder. Jemele Rhone, 30, from Sheffield, has been charged with murder, possession of a firearm and possession of criminal property.Deiryen Dyce, 32, also from Sheffield, has been charged with assisting an offender, possession of ammunition, possession of drugs with intent to supply, possession of drugs and possession of criminal property.A 30-year-old man also arrested on suspicion of murder has been released and is no longer being treated as a suspect.The fund organiser wrote: “Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much to our family during this heartbreaking time.Thank you for all the love, support and kindness.”Shanice had been studying photography, videography and graphic design for a three-year bachelor's degree at The Sheffield College since September 2023 and was due to graduate this month.Work friend Lynsey Golland, backing the campaign, wrote: “You were part of our extended work family, and our team is devastated. We are all heartbroken.“I feel privileged to have spent time with you and had the opportunity to work alongside you. We shared some great nights out and memories that we will hold onto forever.“I know how deeply loved you were and how much you meant to your son, your family, and your friends.”Det Chief Insp Andy Knowles said: “Shanice was a young woman who was in the prime of her life and was simply enjoying a night out in the city centre over the bank holiday weekend.“People often say innocent victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time, but Shanice was not in the wrong place at the wrong time - we should all be able to go on nights out and know that we will come home safely.“This incident lays bare the devastation gun crimes causes within families and communities and I want to send a clear message to those who witnessed the incident or have information on those involved.“If you saw what happened on Monday morning, or have information about who was involved, please do not stay silent. Shanice's family, including her young son, are now facing the heartbreaking reality that they will never see her again. The reckless actions of others have taken her life away from her and the sad reality is that any of us, or our loved ones, could have been the victim of this senseless incident.”He added: “We are carrying out a complex and comprehensive investigation to secure justice for Shanice, but we need the public to come forward and tell us what they saw and what they know, so we can ensure no other family goes through the devastation Shanice's family are experiencing right now.”Shanice’s family previously released a statement saying: “She was a deeply loved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, friend and godmother, as well as being an amazing mum to her son, who meant the world to her. To her cousins, she was more like a sister – someone they could always turn to for love, laughter and support.“Shanice was also due to graduate from university, a reflection of her determination, ambition and the bright future ahead of her. She could light up every room she walked into with her infectious laugh, beautiful soul and magical aura.
