Guwahati: A top leader of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), identified as Haobijam Dilip Singh, was arrested in Delhi following a joint operation conducted by the Delhi Police Special Cell, the Manipur Police, and central intelligence agencies.Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said that four suspected persons believed to be involved in the kidnapping of the six Naga civilians have already been arrested. He informed that the government is taking the issue seriously and search and combing operations by security forces are on to trace the whereabouts of the hostages.A senior police officer in Manipur who does not want to be named said that Singh had come to Delhi to hold some meetings. He is facing more than 12 cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other related charges.He said that following interrogation security forces launched a recovery operation in Manipur’s Kakching district, leading to the seizure of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and logistical supplies. Security forces recovered weapons, ammunition and a mobile phone. Talking to reporters at Makhan Naga Village in Kangpokpi District, the Chief Minister said that investigations are underway to nab the culprits involved in the unfortunate incident. Stating that the government shares the sentiments of the people regarding the hostage issue, he assured that the hostages will be traced out soon.The Makhan Naga Village in Kangpokpi district housed a Relief Camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). He visited the village and met the inmates who are taking shelter at the Makhen Baptist Church. The inmates include Naga women and children of Konsakhul Village, who were recently taken hostage and released by armed miscreants.The Chief Minister also distributed relief materials like rice, dal, potatoes, onion, edible oil, sugar, tea leaf and biscuits. The total number of inmates currently taking shelter in the village is around 35.Khemchand Singh also inspected the village community hall and discussed with the village chief and district officials on the possibility of sheltering more IDPs. He instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi to provide all necessary items like mattresses and mosquito nets. The village chief told the Chief Minister that many Nagas in Kangpokpi district had left their villages due to fear.The official said that at least 50 people belonging to the Kuki and Naga communities were allegedly held hostage by different armed groups in the Kuki-Zo inhabited Kangpokpi district and the Naga-dominated Senapati district following the violent incidents that occurred on May 13, in which three church leaders were killed and four others injured in Kangpokpi district.According to the official, around 30 people from both communities were released on May 14 and 15 following sustained efforts by the authorities, community leaders and several civil society organisations (CSOs).Khemchand Singh had earlier said that the cases relating to the abduction of six Naga villagers and the killing of three church leaders in Kangpokpi district on May 13 had already been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a detailed investigation.Meanwhile, tension continued to prevail in the hill districts as both the Naga and Kuki-Zo communities have been separately agitating over the recent violence, particularly following the brutal killing of three Kuki-Zo church leaders and injuries to four others in Kangpokpi district on May 13.Normal life remained severely affected across Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, especially in Kangpokpi district, after the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) enforced a total shutdown from midnight of May 13 following the killing of the three Baptist Church leaders and injuries to four others in the hill district. The KIM is one of the apex bodies representing the Kuki tribal community.
