Several media outlets have reported that the United States and Iran have reached an initial agreement to extend the ceasefire, but U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet given it final approval.
The BBC, quoting informed sources, stated that this memorandum of understanding is awaiting approval from the leaders of both countries. Axios, Reuters, and AFP have also confirmed this report based on their own sources. Axios, in its report, confirmed that negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program will commence following the approval of the memorandum, but the plan still requires Trump’s final signature.
Axios also quoted an informed source as saying that Trump has informed mediators that he "wants to take a few days to think about it." In response to these reports, the Tasnim News Agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), denied that the text of the understanding has been finalized from the perspective of the Islamic Republic.
The news agency wrote: "As of this moment, Iran has not signaled the finalization of the text to the Pakistani mediator." Hours later, Iran launched a missile attack against a U.S. airbase in Kuwait, an action that U.S. Central Command announced was intercepted and shot down.
