Members of the AmaHlubi National Working Committee and supporters gathered outside Parliament in Cape Town, where they submitted a memorandum calling for the recognition and restoration of the AmaHlubi kingship.
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) says it will move a motion in Parliament calling for the recognition and restoration of the AmaHlubi kingship, as members of the AmaHlubi National Working Committee (ANWC) took their demand for historical justice to the gates of Parliament.
Members of the committee, who said they were acting on behalf of the AmaHlubi Nation, gathered outside Parliament on Thursday, where they submitted a memorandum calling for the restoration and recognition of the AmaHlubi Nation and its kingship.
The protest took place a day after what organisers described as the birthday of King Langalibalele I, whose exile and imprisonment remain central to the AmaHlubi’s demand for recognition.
In the memorandum handed to Parliament, the committee said: "For generations, AmaHlubi people have endured dispossession, political marginalisation, historical erasure, and the dismantling of traditional governance structures following the exile and sentencing of King Langalibalele I on February 9, 1875."
