Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Thursday announced the price of its first mass-market electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser Ebella, at ₹23.60 lakh (ex-showroom) for the sole E3 variant, formally entering India’s increasingly crowded electric SUV market that includes the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS EV.The Urban Cruiser Ebella E3 has been priced at ₹23.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-spec Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Alpha Dual Tone is priced lower at ₹20.01 lakh (ex-showroom). The pricing announcement ends more than four months of market speculation around the delayed launch timeline.TKM had first unveiled the Urban Cruiser Ebella in Mumbai on January 20, 2026, while opening bookings the same day. However, the absence of pricing for over four months had triggered speculation around possible supply-chain and allocation issues within the Toyota-Suzuki partnership. Industry discussions centred on whether Maruti Suzuki was prioritising production and exports of the e Vitara ahead of Toyota’s version of the vehicle. Thursday’s pricing announcement, along with Toyota confirming that the vehicle will start reaching dealerships by the second week of June, effectively puts an end to much of that speculation.Shared DNA, Different PositioningThe Urban Cruiser Ebella shares its platform, battery pack and motor setup with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, reflecting the broader Toyota-Suzuki global alliance that has already produced multiple rebadged products in India. Both SUVs are built on the HEARTECT-e platform and use a 61 kWh battery pack paired with a 128 kW motor producing 189 Nm of torque.Toyota, however, is positioning the Ebella as the more premium offering. The E3 variant comes equipped with features such as a panoramic sunroof, sliding and reclining rear seats, JBL premium audio system, ventilated front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels and 12-colour ambient lighting — features absent on the top-spec Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Alpha Dual Tone, which is priced at ₹20.01 lakh (ex-showroom).For chauffeur-driven urban buyers and rear-seat-focused customers, features such as the reclining rear seats and panoramic roof could emerge as meaningful differentiators. However, value-conscious EV buyers may weigh the mechanical similarity against the significantly lower price of the Maruti alternative.Ownership and Service PlayToyota has matched Maruti Suzuki’s 8-year battery warranty and is additionally offering an Assured Buyback programme along with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing options. On the after-sales side, Maruti Suzuki continues to hold an edge through its wider nationwide network, especially outside major cities. Toyota, meanwhile, said it has prepared over 500 BEV-enabled service touchpoints supported by dedicated EV-trained technicians.Published on May 29, 2026
