Digital banking company Revolut is nearing approval to issue Greek International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs), a move that would deepen its presence in one of its fastest-growing European markets after surpassing 2 million users in Greece.
The company said Greece is now its 11th-largest market globally by retail customers, with more than 18% of the population using its services. Revolut said it added over 400,000 new individual customers in 2025, while its overall user base grew by more than 30% over the same period.
Executives say obtaining Greek IBANs would allow the company to compete more directly with traditional banks for payroll accounts and expand its range of financial products in the country.
“Having a local IBAN will help us become a primary bank for our customers, not only for transactions or salary deposits but also for additional services,” said Vasilis Ameranis, operations manager for Revolut Greece.
The company said the move would also align it more closely with local regulatory requirements and is expected to strengthen confidence among employers and customers.
