US President Donald Trump's re-election campaign emphasised that his government would tackle America's illegal immigration levels, but social media users have questioned his government's tactics07:27, 29 May 2026The White House has released an interactive map showing the location of illegal-immigration-related arrests. The site, a part of the official White House webpage, resembles that of a retro sci-fi document in which the viewer has obtained confidential information. It however, refers not to interterritorial species, but people living in the US illegally. The site reads: "For 60 years, the U.S. government has kept a closely guarded secret. Aliens have been walking among us, living in our neighborhoods, and interacting with us in our daily lives. They've shopped in the same stores, attended the same classes as our children, and lived seemingly normal human existences. With one exception — they do not belong here."The site continues to read: "Millions arrived under the cover of darkness and embedded themselves directly into our society. Countless presidents, congressmen, and senior officials knew exactly what was happening. Instead of protecting American citizens, they chose to cover it up and even accelerate the invasion."It concludes: "Until one man finally had the courage to tell the truth. Bold. Unapologetic. Unafraid. President Trump was the first to call out the real danger Aliens pose to every American family, every community, and the future of our nation.""The truth is no longer out there. It is right here. Right now."US President Donald Trump has repeatedly referred to illegal immigrants as "aliens". During his re-election campaign, Trump emphasised that his government would handle America's illegal immigration levels. The site concludes with an interactive map, whereby users can look at where ICE arrests have been made, the dates between which the arrests occurred, criminal charges of those arrested and the countries from which the people originated. It also has an "encounter" counter. At the time of publishing, almost 3.2 million "encounters" have been made. The site did not explain what an "encounter" referred to.The site has been met with backlash on social media. One X user commented: "I'm kinda confused. You’re releasing actual extraterrestrials info, which I think is awesome and long overdue. But at the same time you've created this page which is absolutely about humans from different countries. I say it's a dumb move. I'm confused. I'm sure many others are as well."One other acknowledged that deporting illegal immigrants is the focus of the government, but said people deserve to be treated with dignity.Article continues below"I get that this administration’s policy is focused on deporting illegal immigrants, but they're still humans with dignity. Why treat them with disrespect and dishonor them with these trolling posts and demeaning rhetoric? Why can't this administration just enact its policies without insulting those it affects?"Another questioned whether the move will affect the credibility of the government. The user said: "I gotta hand it to you, that's a very creative, and I daresay effective clickbait. I wonder if this hurts the credibility of the US government, though. If we're faced with some global cataclysm tomorrow, will the public take any warnings issued by the White House, or will they put it down as just another meme?"
