Authorities in the northern Athens suburb of Maroussi were placed on alert Thursday evening after a World War II-era shell was discovered inside an abandoned house on Vosporou Street.

The Greek Army’s Land Mine Clearance Squad (TENX) was immediately notified, while police cordoned off nearby streets to ensure the operation was carried out safely.

Shortly before midnight, the shell was successfully removed from the site without incident. Authorities gradually reopened surrounding roads and restored traffic in the area.

No injuries or damage were reported.
