Emergency services said two people were wounded in the incident. Romania, a NATO and EU member, has repeatedly reported Russian drone fragments and airspace violations since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. But the latest incident marks a serious escalation because a Russian drone struck a residential building inside NATO territory and caused civilian injuries. The strike occurred as Russia resumed overnight drone attacks on Ukraine’s civilian and infrastructure targets near the Danube River, where Ukrainian ports sit close to Romania’s border.
