A small feathered stowaway was the cause of the cancellation of a long haul flight on Thursday.

Air NZ flight NZ81 from Auckland to Hong Kong was scheduled to take off at 10.15am, however, Air New Zealand Chief Safety and Risk Officer, Nathan McGraw, told Stuff that after boarding the bird was found on the flight deck.

“Our teams spent several hours attempting to safely locate and remove the bird before departure, however, despite their best efforts, they were unable to do so,” he said.

“As a result, the service was cancelled in order for our Engineering and Maintenance teams to perform a more extensive search.”
