Soldier found dead in creek along Samar highway

TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE, Philippines — A man believed to be an active soldier assigned to the 8th Infantry Division based in Catbalogan City was found dead Thursday morning, May 28, in a creek beside an unfinished portion of the national highway in Gandara, Samar.

Police identified the victim only by his alias “Sonny,” 39, married, and a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño, Gandara town.

Initial investigation showed that the victim’s body was discovered around 8:30 a.m. in a creek along the national highway in Barangay Diaz after a concerned resident noticed that caution lines and warning signs placed in the unfinished road section had been disturbed.
