The Movement for Credible Election (MCE), alongside prominent civil society leaders including Dr Usman Bugaje and former Minister of Education, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against appealing a Federal High Court judgment that nullified parts of its timetable for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the group said any attempt by INEC to challenge the ruling would further damage public confidence in the electoral body, which it described as already suffering from a severe credibility crisis.
The statement was jointly signed by MCE Chairman, Dr Usman Bugaje; Co-Chairman, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili; Deputy Chairman, Hadjia Bilikisu Magoro; and Head of National Secretariat, Olawale Okunniyi.
The statement followed reports that INEC had filed an appeal against the judgment delivered by Justice Umar, which voided portions of the commission’s timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 polls.
