Investigators claimed Rush falsely portrayed himself as a former Navy pilot and also claimed to possess advanced university degrees that authorities later discovered never existed.
A former officer of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), David Rush, has been arrested in Virginia after federal investigators allegedly uncovered a massive cache of stolen gold bars, foreign currency, cash and luxury items linked to the intelligence agency.
Rush was taken into custody last week on allegations bordering on theft of public funds after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reportedly discovered more than 300 gold bars estimated to be worth about $40 million hidden inside his residence, according to CNN.
An FBI affidavit cited by multiple U.S. media reports showed that Rush allegedly spent years deceiving the US government about his military background and academic qualifications before rising to a senior executive role within the CIA with top-secret clearance.
Investigators claimed Rush falsely portrayed himself as a former Navy pilot and also claimed to possess advanced university degrees that authorities later discovered never existed.
