New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said opposition-led governments never gave Veer Savarkar the recognition he deserved despite his immense contribution to the nation. Shah was in Gujarat to lay the foundation stone for development projects.Speaking at a public event, Shah said no one in the country remembers him merely as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, but as Veer Savarkar, whose life was dedicated to the nation. Recalling Savarkar's imprisonment in the Cellular Jail, Shah said the freedom fighter had told a British jailer that British rule would end before his lifetime was over and India would soon attain Independence.Shah noted that the Modi government has completed 12 years in office and during this period, the Gujarat model of development has been expanded from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gangasagar to Somnath. "As a result of this, today the party is in power across nearly 80% of the country's geographical area."He said that in the West Bengal elections, the TMC was completely wiped out. Shah added that from Gangotri in Uttarakhand to Gangasagar in West Bengal, along the entire course of the holy Ganga, it is PM Modi and the party which have worked to ensure the spread of saffron influence.Shah said the party had promised during the West Bengal elections that work on fencing the Bangladesh border would begin immediately after coming to power. He said strengthening border fencing and anti-infiltration infrastructure remains a priority, adding that the state government had handed over 600 hectares of land to the BSF and another 121 hectares for the Chicken's Neck corridor project. Shah also claimed that while infiltration was rampant under the previous regime, illegal entrants were now returning on their own.
BJP's influence now stretches from Gangotri to Gangasagar: Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised Veer Savarkar's dedication to the nation. He stated that opposition governments overlooked Savarkar's contributions. Shah also highlighted the Modi government's development model, which has expanded across India. He mentioned efforts to strengthen border fencing and anti-infiltration infrastructure, noting a decrease in illegal entries.
Amit Shah declared BJP controls nearly 80% of India's territory after 12 years of Modi rule, citing West Bengal's TMC wipeout as confirmation of national dominance. The 600-hectare BSF land transfer and Chicken's Neck corridor project signal a security-first border policy toward Bangladesh with structural infrastructure investment.
